Landscape Portfolio
During my frequent and numerous travels across the state of Montana I try occasionally to stop and admire the beautiful scenery that I encounter. These photos range from the mountains of Western Montana, the other worldly landscapes found in Yellowstone National Park, awe inspiring Northern Lights displays, to the breathtaking views of the Missouri River Breaks in the Eastern Plains.
I am pleased to share a few of my favorite landscapes in the gallery below. If you see one that you would like a print of, please check out my prints section. If it is not available there, please reach out via my Contact page and I will make it available.
Enjoy!
The Majestic Mission Mountains rising above a Historic Barn and the low morning clouds in late December 2025.
Beautiful Sunset above the sage brush hills outside of White Sulphur Springs, MT.
The snow covered cliffs of Amphitheater Mountain at 10,223 feet rising above Silver Gate Montana was a breathtaking sight in the early morning light on my way to take wildlife photos in the Lamar Valley of YNP.
Fall wheat fields shimmering the evening light and wind outside of White Sulphur Springs, MT.
Near Judith Gap, MT, Sheep Ranching and Wind Turbines collide.
The sunbeams above these haybales in the Smith River Valley near White Sulphur Springs, MT drew my attention.
Frost covered Pines near the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park. Look at the way the steam from the nearby hot springs and geyser coated and froze to the pine trees.
The north shore of Flathead Lake near Bigfork at Low Pool in early spring 2025.
This stump on the North Shore of Flathead Lake created a striking reflection that begged to be captured.
Another weathered and aged tree on the north shore of Flathead Lake near Bigfork, MT.
This frosty morning view of the Bitterroot River between Missoula and Lolo Montana begged to be captured and shared, so I had to stop and take photos.
This frosty morning view of the Bitterroot River between Missoula and Lolo Montana begged to be captured and shared, so I had to stop and take photos. In the foreground you can see the now abandoned Bitterroot Branch line of Montana Rail Link.
Mad Wolf Mountain dominated the skyline above Browning MT as I drove into town from the east side of the state. Kupunkamint Mountain rises to the right (north side) of Cut Bank Creek.
The pilings of the Polson Bridge over Flathead Lake (and River) grabbed my attention. I wanted to capture the uniform pattern made by the pilings combined with the water markings and how they seemed to stretch to infinity from where I was standing.
In late Fall of 2024 I was working in Yellowstone National Park so had frequent opportunities to capture both wildlife and landscapes. In this photo Tangled Creek makes its way westward thru the Bobby Socks Trees, deadfall and dried grasses near Grand Loop Road.
In the upper left if you look carefully you can see Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS streaking thru the night sky above the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park. Having never captured a striking photo of a Comet before this night I love this photo.
On my drive back to work from Clyde Park one morning this scene of ranch artwork, the windmill with the Crazy Mountains rising beyond made me pause to take this photo.
The snow covered teeth of the Crazy Mountains bite into the cloud cover. This was taken looking west from Big Timber, MT.
The morning sun illuminated this Winter Wheat making it glow somewhere in Montana.
Sunset thru the cottonwoods along the Banks of the Shields River in Montana.
Mount Hornaday rising above Pebble Creek in Yellowstone National Park.
Wind swept stones along the bank of the Yellowstone River near Livingston, MT.
A fog covered dock on the South Shore of Flathead Lake near Polson, MT.
A dramatic foggy sunrise over the Lamar River in Yellowstone National Park.
Rapid Creek spills over a log along the trail to Cottonwood Lake in the Crazy Mountains of Montana.
Snow drifts along a county road in Park County, Montana.
Another angle of Rapid Creek spilling over the log on the Cottonwood Lake Trail in the Crazy Mountains of Montana.
Lamar Buffalo Ranch and Ranger Station cloaked in the Early Morning Fog. Much of the ranch is now used by Yellowstone Forever Institute for their nefarious purpose of preserving Yellowstone National Park for future generations. ;-)
New Years Sunset over the Sagebrush on New Years Day 2023 near Clyde Park, MT.
Crimson sunset from Mount Helena during Fire Season. The Ash in the air really gave the sky a red hue and helped reveal the sunbeams in the sky.
The vibrant green color of the Yellowstone River grabbed my attention when I walked across the original bridge near Tower Junction in 2024.
The terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park are varied and a must see geologic feature when you travel to the Park.

I love this surreal capture of Canary Hot Springs at Mammoth Wyoming. The way the water cascades down the face, the mineral deposits and the steam all combine to make this one of my favorite accidental art captures.
Here the white terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs blend with the wind driven snow.
A vibrant sunset over the Bridger Mountains. I was on my way to Archery League in Bozeman with a co-worker and friend when I made him pull over so I could take this picture.
The Northern Lights above the Bobby Socks trees at Fountain Paint Pots in Yellowstone National Park.
